Ford Recall 2012 |
Ford says that carpeting flaw may cause drivers to apply the brakes improperly, increasing stopping distances and the risk of crashes.
It added that dealers will remove the carpet padding and replace a console trim panel at no charge.
The automaker noted that it had not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem, which was discovered after an internal evaluation.
The Ford recall affects more than 10,000 units of the 2013 Escape SUV that were manufactured between March 8 and June 7 this year at the company's retooled Louisville Assembly plant.
The recall is expected to begin July 23. Owners may call the automaker at 866-436-7332.
The redesigned Escape SUVs are the company's second-best selling vehicle after F-Series trucks. Last month, it was the sixth best-selling vehicle in the U.S. Sales during the month soared 28% on a year-over-year basis to 28,500 units.
