Brazilian Judoka Breaks Olympic Medal In Shower

Brazilian breaks medal
A Brazilian judo player accidentally broke his Olympic medal when he took it to shower with.

Felipe Kitadai, who won a bronze medal after defeating Italy's Elio Verde in the -60kg category on Saturday, he was carrying the medal everywhere he went and decided to take it to the shower as well as a joke, but ended up dropping it while trying to keep it from getting wet.

"He then slept with the medal and realized later that it was broken. It wasn't a very smart thing to do," a team spokesperson told the Reuters.

The 23-year-old Brazilian judoka said he can't anymore wear the medal around its neck as it was damaged at the part where the ribbon loops through a hoop.

The International Olympic Committee is under no obligation to give the athlete a replacement for his broken medal but it is reportedly considering a formal request by the Brazilian Olympic Committee for a new medal.
