Fernan Angeles of Daily Tribune shot in Pasig, in critical condition

Fernan Angeles of The Daily Tribune
Fernan Angeles, a reporter of The Daily Tribune newspaper, was repeatedly shot Sunday night, police said.

Angeles, 41, was reportedly beaten and then shot near his home in Pasig City at around 10 p.m. He sustained fractures and six gunshot wounds and is now at the intensive care unit of the Pasig City General Hospital.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Angeles' wife Gemma said the shooting may have something to do with her husband’s recent exposés involving an illegal drug syndicate operating in their city.

The Malacañang has ordered the Philippine National Police to prove the latest incident of media shooting in the country.

"We are deeply shocked and concerned over the shooting of Malacañang Press Corps and Daily Tribune reporter Fernan J. Angeles. Secretary Robredo has directed a thorough investigation. We have also been in close contact with Mr. Angeles’ wife so as to render assistance to them in their hour of need. We have also communicated with the officers of MPC to assure them that all will be done to ensure the welfare and recovery of Mr. Angeles," the Malacañang said in a statement Monday.

Meanwhile, The National Press Club (NPC), the Alyansa ng Filipinong Mamamahayag (AFIMA) and the Alab ng Mamamahayag (ALAM) have offered a 100,000-peso reward to those who could give information that would lead to the arrest of Angeles' assailant. -NoypiStuff
