Ivy Rose Padilla, a Filipina migrant living in Wellington, received the Best Actress in a Leading Role-Musical award at the recently concluded Northern Area Performance Theatre Awards (NAPTA).

The NAPTA Awards were established in 2001 to formally recognize and celebrate the talents seen in amateur theater productions within New Zealand's Northern Region covering an area from Pukekohe to Kerikeri.

Padilla was recognized for her role as Kim in the critically-acclaimed musical "Miss Saigon."

In one of her interviews, De La Salle University-Manila graduate Padilla admitted that she is a big fan of the pop opera and Lea Salonga, Tony Award-winning actress who is known for her role as Kim in the West End and Broadway productions of the musical, since childhood. She beat out more than a hundred aspirants for the tragic lead role in the New Zealand production.

Ivy is currently involved in Sir Peter Jackson's film "The Hobbit" which she regards as another great learning experience for her as she gets to see the difference in how things are done in theatre and in film production.
