Davy Jones of The Monkees dies of heart attack

Davy Jones, the lead singer of The Monkees, has died Wednesday in his hometown of Indiantown, Florida following a heart attack. He was 66.

Jones' publicist Deborah Robicheau told BBC that the British actor-singer suffered a massive heart attack in his sleep at his home. TMZ reported that he was transported to a hospital where he was pronounce dead.

Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and 4 daughters from previous marriages.

Jones was named "Number 1 teen idol of all time" by Yahoo! Music in 2008 and was ranked 2nd in a list of 10 best teen idols compiled by Fox News in 2009.

He was a member of television band and '60s sensations The Monkees who popularized the hit songs "Last Train to Clarksville", "I'm A Believer", "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone", "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Daydream Believer." The band's albums and singles have sold over 65 million copies worldwide.
