MEN

Men
They hail you as their morning star
Because you are the way you are.
If you return the sentiment,
They'll try to make you different;
& once they have you,
Safe & sound,
They want to change you all around.
Your moods & ways they put a curse on;
They'd make of you another person.
They cannot let you go your gait;
They influence & educate.
They'd alter all that they admired.
They make me sick, they make me tired.

Jake or Jake?

I am having a particularly lovely, low key Sunday. The Husband has watched A Summer Place & Hitchcock's Suspicion, leaving me to consider People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive Issue. Although I am a fan of Mr. Reynolds, to really appreciate his talents he needs to be showing his nipples. I find a variety of men, of different ages & body types, attractive & sexy. On this late autumn cold & rainy Sunday, I am trying to decide between my 2 favorite Jakes. Which Jake would you take? If you were forced to choose just one... Gyllenhaal or Shears?

September's Here Again

The sun shines high above
The sounds of laughter
The birds swoop down upon
The crosses of old grey churches
We say that we’re in love
While secretly wishing for rain
Sipping coke & playing games

September’s here again

Do You Wanna See My Balls?

Just short of needing meds for being compulsive obsessive (alphabetized CDs, color coded closet), I am not afraid to own up being a collector (but not a hoarder). I have posted about collecting certain writers & musical artists. I collect different versions of certain songs- Mack The Knife & Waters Of March, to name 2. I collect river rocks, but only those that hva stripe & are oval. For decades I have been  drawn tocollect orbs, from marbles to bowling balls, globes to gazing balls.

About a year ago, I started posting about my collection of vintage photographs, mostly 1860-1960, of men being affectionate with each other. It is a getting close to being a world class gathering of snapshots & formal portraits. I have been in the process of trying to determine who I can leave them to. I would love to find an institution that would like to preserve this hand-picked archive of men touching, hugging & kissing each other. Some of these photos are framed & put into very tasteful groupings by the Husband, & many I just have in protective sleeves in a box that can be brought out for viewing. They are all treasures to me, but sometimes I will revisit one & really scrutinize & study it, their is power in visiting the past. This one was framed on the fridge & it slipped out of the bottom of its clip-on frame & slid under the appliance. I am so lazy. I took months for me move the thing & retrieve SHO-ME:

I like to consider who the gentlemen are in the photographs, who they might have been & what the meant to each other.
What do you think this scene was all about?

Singles, 3s, or groups? Most of the Vintage Photo Collection are duos & a handsome handful of groups of 3s. There are very few groups, but here are 2 more that I favor:

When You Are Far Away & I Am Blue, What'll I Do?

Gone is the romance that was so divine.
'tis broken & cannot be mended.
You must go your way,
& I must go mine.
But now that our love dreams have ended...

What'll I do
When you are far away
& I am blue
What'll I do?

What'll I do?
When I am wond'ring who
Is kissing you
What'll I do?

What'll I do with just a photograph
To tell my troubles to?

When I'm alone
With only dreams of you
That won't come true
What'll I do?

Men I Am Zany for #12

I love the actors from the United Kingdom. Wales (Timothy Dalton), Scotland (Sean Connery), Northern Ireland (Liam Neeson), & England (Daniel Craig).. .they just know how to make them sexy, smart, accomplished & with accents! Today I offer 3 of my favorites.

Jude Law is currently on Broadway as the Prince of Denmark. My favorite performance- The Talented Mr. Ripley.

I first noticed Alan Rickman in Die Hard. My favorite performance was in Love Actually. I hear he is in some film franchise with Harry Potter in the title.

I heart Ewan McGregor! Currently seen in The Men Who Stare At Goats with my secret lover- George Clooney. The Husband & I just caught Trainspotting again. Brilliant! My favorite performance would have to be Moulin Rouge.

"The Camera Can Photograph Thought” Dirk Bogarde

Just short of needing meds for being compulsive obsessive (alphabetized CDs, color coded closet), I am not afraid to own up being a collector (but not a hoarder). I have posted about collecting certain writers & musical artists. I collect different versions of songs- Mack The Knife & Waters Of March, to name 2. Some of these photos are framed & put into very tasteful groupings by the Husband, & many I just have in protective sleeves in a box that can be brought out for viewing.

In the late 1980s, the Husband received a magical old scrapbook from the 1930s as a gift from his employer at the time. It was the scrapbook of what is obviously a British male couple in their early 30s, at least 1 of the pair is an architect or draftsman. The photos include nice images of their pair of lovebirds & their Staffordshire terrier. There are great shots of them, obviously in love, holding on to each other & touching, & there is a series from a “grand tour” that includes men in swim suits on Mediterranean beaches being much more immodest than Americans of the period, & photos naked brown men in North Africa. We would drag out the scrapbook to show people until, with little regret, the husband took them out of the book & framed them in the same style & size of simple black frames.

I thought I would start sharing different vintage photographs form my collection as a new feature on Post Apocalyptic Bohemian.

What Have I Been Missing?

I have never watched daytime TV, & I don’t tape “my stories” as my friend Manolo says, but what about Shawn Christian on Days Of Our Lives?

Because we are on the new "austerity program", I have stopped the premium channels offered by the evil Comcast. Was I hasty, now that I am missing Hung on HBO with yummy Thomas Jayne ( this pick was on my fridge until it yellowed… & I grieved when it came down)?

Torture/Splatter Horror films are a genre that I will skip, but what about Eli Roth writer, producer, director & star of Hostel & Hostel 2?

Men That I Am Zany For #11... Yummerrific Dylan & Dermot

When I have had a bit of whiskey I will get them mixed up, but there is no doubt about the fact that I am a fan of both Dylan McDermott & Dermot Mulroney. Both are yummy, both are good actors that are over looked because they have that great touch for light comedy. I first noticed Dylan (48) in Steel Magnolias & I loved his story arc on Will & Grace. I took note of Dermot (46) in 1990's Longtime Companion, in which he gave an amazing performance, but I always like his work, especially when he takes his clothing off. Poor Debra Messing. That must have been a difficult shoot. Too bad men in their late 40s can't be hot, huh? I feel sort of guilty that I get them mixed up a bit...but I would really like to get mixed up with them sometime.

Men I am Zany For #10

Johnny Depp is sexy because he is so talented, & well... just because he is so sexy. His upcoming film is Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland as the Mad Hatter. Have you seen the production pictures? Wow! This movie might be really luscious. Mr. Depp sure is.
He is one of the most versatile of actors & I admire a guy who is versatile. My favorite performance- as J. M. Barry in Finding Neverland.

Unforced All-American masculinity + true acting chops = yummy. Upcoming film is the romantic comedy Love Happens. My favorite performance- Thank You For Smoking.

My secret lover Jake Gyllenhaal causes my heart to flutter. His upcoming film is David O. Russell's Nailed. My favorite performance- the night together at The Chateau Marmont & he is underrated work in Brokeback Mountain. But, has given a bad performance? In development- Damn Yankees.
