Suspension of Classes Advisories For August 9, 2012 (Thursday)

Important Update (8:29 p.m., August 8, 2012): 

Malacañang has suspended August 9 classes in all levels—including postgraduate courses— in the National Capital Region, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal. There will be work in national government and private offices. This is according to Memorandum Circular 34 issued by Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr Wednesday evening.

With several areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces still flooded and some areas under "State of Calamity," affected local government units may opt to suspend classes on Thursday, August 9, 2012.

As of posting time (11:50 a.m, August 8), the University of Santo Tomas in Manila has suspended Thursday classes.

"Classes in UST remain suspended until tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012." tweeted The Varsitarian, the school's official student publication.

Update:  According a DZMM Teleradyo report on Twitter, San Mateo, Rizal has also announced class suspension from elementary to high school.

"Klase sa San Mateo, Rizal bukas, Aug 9, elem to high school (public), suspendido pa rin." it tweeted.

Adamson University also canceled classes on Thursday.

"Classes and work at all levels still suspended for tomorrow, August 9. Again, please stay safe Adamsonians." the school said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) have denied rumors circulating online that they have announced suspension of classes from August 7 to 10, 2012.

"For those who are asking, this is NOT TRUE - NEWS UPDATE: DepED & CHED declared NO CLASSES Aug. 7 - 10, 2012 Tuesday-Friday." DepEd tweed.
