Bagyong Dindo PAGASA Update June 28, 2012

Bagyong Dindo has moved closer to Northern Luzon, prompting the PAGASA to raise storm warning signals in several areas.

As of 4 a.m. on June 28, 2012, Bagyong Dindo's center was estimated based on satellite and surface data at at 260 km E of Aparri,Cagayan(18.3°N,124.4°E) with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kph.

Storm Signal No. 2 has been raised over Cagayan, Calayan & Babuyan Grp. of Islands, Isabela, Batanes Grp. of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Abra &and Mt. Province.

Meanwhile, the following areas remain under Signal No. 1: La Union, Ilocos Sur, Aurora, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Benguet.

The rainfall amount within the 400 km diameter of Bagyong Dindo is estimated from 15 - 25 mm per hour, which is "heavy - intense."

Bagyong Dindo is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon and Visayas, especially the western section, which may trigger landslides and flashfloods and possible occurrence of storm surge over the coastal areas under Signal No. 2.

The PAGASA advises fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to venture out into the Seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon and Western Visayas due to the combined effect of Bagyong Dindo and the Southwest Monsoon.

Bagyong Dindo is the fourth tropical cyclone to have entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility this 2012.

"The active low pressure area east of Virac, Catanduanes has developed into a tropical depression and was named 'Dindo,'" the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday afternoon.

As of 5 p.m., June 26, 2012, Bagyong Dindo was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 670 km east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (14.2°N, 131.3°E) with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kph.

Bagyong Dindo is expected to be at 520 km East of Casiguran, Aurora by Wednesday afternoon and at 320 km East of Aparri, Cagayan by Thursday afternoon. The weather disturbance will be a lot closer to land on Friday where it is expected at 80 km North Northeast of Basco, Batanes, the weather bureau said.

According to the PAGASA, Bagyong Dindo will bring an estimated amount of rainfall of 10 - 15 mm per hour (heavy) within its 400 km diameter.

Due to big waves generated by the effect of the Southwest Monsoon and Bagyong Dindo, the PAGASA advises fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to venture out into the Eastern Seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
