X Factor Philippines Top 12 Contenders |
Live from the Pagcor Theater in Paranaque, the contestants did their versions of songs used as movie soundtracks, including Avril Lavigne's "Keep Holding On" from the fantasy-adventure film, "Eragon"; Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain," which was part of the OST of the blockbuster hit "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1" and The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody," the theme song of the hit movie, "Ghost."
The songs were chosen by mentors Martin Nievera (Boys category), Charice (Girls category), Pilita Corales (Over 25's category) and Gary Valenciano (Groups category).

In order of performance, here are the songs covered by the "X Factor Philippines" Top 12 finalists as well as judges' critiques and comments.
TAKE OFF, 23-26, Manila: Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock" the 1950's musical movie of the same name.
Martin: "Oh wow... What can I say you are more synched that N'sync. I wish I was your mentor because that's how you start"
Pilita: "Excellent. I liked it."
Charice: "For me, sobrang well put together. Lahat... choreography and blending niyo. Since nagaudition kayo, ang laki ng improvement."
Gary: "You took it to another level"
ALLEN JANE STA.MARIA, 17, Cabanatuan City: Avril Lavigne's "Keep Holding On" from the fantasy-adventure film, "Eragon."
Martin: "Absolutely beautiful! You have everything to be proud of tonight."
Gary: "Charice, nahuli niya kung ano ang dapat mong ipalabas sa tao. Iba 'yong pinakita mo."
Pilita: "Don't cry. You're so good."
Charice: "Again, since sa simula and laki ng pinagbago mo. I'm so proud of you."
GABRIEL MATURAN, 19, Dapitan City: Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain," which was part of the OST of the blockbuster hit "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1."
Gary: "Tonight, you did something na hindi ko pa nakita. I'm surprised. Vocally, I think you can do better."
Pilita: "Congratulations! You have really improved so much"
Charice: "Naaliw ako sa performance. Nakalimutan ko na sad pala 'yong song. Ang galing!"
Martin: "I'm so proud of you. We all love to see you again."
MODESTO TARAN, 55, Cagayan de Oro City: Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" from "Back to the Future."
Martin: "Naglevel up ang performance mo."
Gary: "That's the way to do it."
Charice: "Mr. Suave, I mean Mr. Modesto, ito talaga ang nagpapatunay na age does not matter."
Pilita: "He proved everybody wrong. you can do it. Congratulations."
DADDY'S HOME, 31-39, Quezon City and Makati: Ella Mae Saison's "Till My Heartaches End" from the Kimerald movie of the same title.
Martin: "Daddy is truly home. Be proud. Oh My God."
Pilita: "From the beginning I fell in love with you already, you are fantastic."
Charice: "Daddy's home. as always a-ma-zing..."
Gary: "Sigurado ako... lalo na 'yong nakafix na ang ivote... after seeing you, people will be confused. I love you guys and you know that. Thank you for making me proud."
KZ TANDINGAN, 20, Digos, Davao del Sur: Lenka's "The Show," featured in the British film "Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging."
Martin: "Big things come in small packages and you proved it."
Pilita: "For me, Charice parang... wrong choice of song."
Gary: "You're great but I think you can bring so much more pa."
Charice: "For me, I'm so proud of you. But I think you can do a lot better than this."
JERIC MEDINA, 21, Paranaque City: The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody," the theme song of the hit movie "Ghost."
Pilita: "You sound like your mentor. You're very very good. Great choice of song."
Gary: "You are fortunate that your voice ang sarap pakinggan. With that song na kailangan ng power, I believe that you have that power in you."
Charice: "It was a good performance but it is not a wow performance."
Martin: "The show must go on. If you proved anything tonight you proved that to me. Good job."
MARK MABASA, 26, Las Pinas City: Seal's "Kiss From A Rose," included in the Batman Forever movie soundtrack.
Martin. "Beautiful job. You know, every song has a story. You tell a story beautifully. Good job."
Gary: "Hindi ko akalain na ganito ang kaya mong gawin. Para sa akin, ang galing."
Charice: "Talagang nasa 'yo na ang package."
Pilita: "He's my boy. You were born to be a star."
AKA JAM (formerly the Lucky Girls), Manila and Cebu: Cheryl Lynn's "Got To Be Real" from "The Pink Panther" movie
Martin: "Wow! That was unbelievable."
Pilita: "It was fabulous."
Charice: "That was really good."
Gary: "I'm just so proud of all of you. Wala na akong masabi."
JOAN DA, 26, San Pablo City: Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning" from the movie, "Cheaper by the Dozen 2."
Martin: "You have made yourself, unforgettable."
Gary: "I have to agree with Tita Pilita, ikaw lang ang may boses na ganito. I think magkikita tayo ulit."
Charice: "Tonight, napatunayan mo na sobrang talented ka."
Pilita: "Stay the way as you are now. Thank you. Very good."
JERRIANE MAE TEMPLO, 21, Mandaluyong City: Roberta Flack "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," part of the soundtrack of "Play Misty for Me" movie:
Martin: "That was beautiful."
Pilita: "Very good song choice from a very good mentor."
Gary: "Tama ang mentor mo. You gave a 100% and we received a 100%."
Charice: "Gusto kong ishowcase ang soul mo not the birit. You did great."
KEDEBON COLIM, 18, Cebu: Kamikazee's "First Day High," from the locally produced movie of the same title.
Pilita: "Bagay na bagay talaga ang pinagagawa mo diyan."
Gary: "Siguro alam mo na ikaw ang pinakacontroversial na contestant pero..."
Charice: "That was awesome."
Martin: I'm so proud of you. Sana maraming believers ka ngayon. Congratulations."
