Josephine Hull, American stage & screen actor, winner of a Best Supporting Actress for Harvey. She had a 50 year career on stage; in the 1930s &1940s, Hull appeared in 3 Broadway hits, as a batty matriarch in You Can't Take It With You (1936), as a dotty, charming but homicidal little old lady in Arsenic & Old Lace (1941), & in Harvey (1944). The plays all had long runs, & took up a decade of Hull's career.
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer, poet, philologist, & university professor, best known as the author of the classic high fantasy works The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings. I loved his books when I was 12 years old. I saw the 1st in the Lord of the Ring movies, & (sorry Uncle Prospero) I was Bored with the Rings, I guess because I am not 12 years old, although I still like the 3 Stooges.
ZaSu Pitts, American actor who starred in many silent dramas & comedies, although with the advent of sound, her career consisted of mostly comedy. She overcame her looks & voice, which had served her in silent films to play dramatic roles, using them to invent a new persona in talkies. I was more than a little amused by her name as a child & was given to repeating nonsensically.
Beautiful, talented & underrated Marion Davies, screen star of the 1920s & 1930s. If you don’t know her story, you should. Try the Peter Bogdanovich movie The Cat's Meow, Kirsten Dunst played Davies as a witty, intelligent woman.
Ray Milland was a Welsh actor & director. He had a screen career from 1929 to 1985, & he is best remembered for his Oscar winning portrayal of an alcoholic writer in The Lost Weekend (1945) & as Oliver Barrett III in Love Story (1970).
Anna May Wong was an American actress, the first Chinese American movie star, & the first Asian American to become an international star. Her long (19222-1961) & varied career spanned both silent & sound film, television, stage, & radio.
Sir George Henry Martin is an English record producer, arranger, composer & musician. He was the producer of all but one of The Beatles' original albums. He is considered one of the greatest record producers of all time, with 23 #1 hits, an unmatched achievement.
Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson, is an Irish-American actor, film director, producer & screenwriter. He started his career as an intense, original & impossibly beautiful young actor. With a lot of hard work, some religious delusion, & a whole lot of booze, he became one of the nuttiest advocates for homophobia, anti-semitism, racism, & misogyny. He is oddly friends with Jodie Foster. I think this douche’s rants are fun to listen to. & how many times have I said this: "I am going to come & burn the fucking house down... but you will blow me first.
Post Apocalyptic Bohemian is the moniker for a bitter washed up former actor/singer/dancer/ voice-over artist/ nightclub performer/waiter who gave himself over to a life hedonism & cynicism & is now paying the price. He works as a chocolate & wine buyer for an upscale gourmet retail store in the Brooklyn of the West Coast. He is a blogger with a bent towards allegorical, allusional, anticlimactic alliteration in postings of his boorish, bad-ass, barbaric beliefs, recollections & opinions. He is a bit of a crank, but word is out that he is a good kisser. His Husband: "He didn't talk for the first 28 years of our relationship & now he won't shut up. You must have patience, charity & a bit of daring to live with him..."
