An indelible icon of the 1960s, if not quite a Gay Icon, Janis Joplin had affairs with women, men & Southern Comfort. She cruised the streets of LA in a Porsche 365 Cabriolet painted in far-out psychedelic designs.
I didn't see her in concert, I didn't drop acid with her. I did see Monterey Pop & she did make an impression. I have never owned a Janis Joplin album, not even Pearl, yet I still instantly recognize her voice, her style & her songs. I can conjur up her image on my hard drive. I like to think that if she had been alive today, on her 69th birthday, she would be enjoing the success of her album of standards, including her duet with Streisand on Irving Berlin's Sisters.
Her story continues to tantalize Hollywood. Her life is just crying out to made for a musical film-bio pic... but starring who?
