Princess Estelle of Sweden was baptised today

Princess Estelle of Sweden was baptised this afternoon in Stockholm. Princess Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary is the first daughter of Swedish crown princess Victoria, 34, and her husband, prince Daniel, 38. She was born February 23rd, 2012.

The godparents of Princess Estelle are her maternal uncle HRH Prince Carl Philip of Sweden; HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark; HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway; HRH The Prince of Orange; and her paternal aunt Mrs Anna Westling Söderblom.

Prince Willem Alexander, The Prince of Orange is a good friend of Princess Victoria, but the new parents have also chosen to continue the Dutch-Swedish tradition of godparents. Princess Juliana (later Queen Juliana) was chosen as a godmother to Prince Carl Gustaf (now King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden) in 1946; then Crown Prince Gustav Adolf (later King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden) was chosen as a godfather to Princess Marijke in 1947; Princess Beatrix (now Queen Beatrix) is godmother to Crown Princess Victoria; Crown Princess Victoria herself is godmother to the Prince of Orange's oldest daughter Princess Catharina-Amalia (Amalia was a flower girl at Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel's wedding); and now Prince Willem-Alexander, The Prince of Orange, is chosen as a godfather to Princess Estelle. 

Princess Marie of Denmark is expecting

The Danish royal family is about to get bigger. It was announced that Prince Joachim and his wife, Princess Marie, are expecting their second child together. The baby is expected in January 2012.

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie are parents to 2-year old son Henrik. Prince Joachim also has two sons from his first marriage to Countess Alexandra, Prince Nikolai - who will be 12 this week - and 9-year old Prince Felix.

The news of a new addition to the royal family comes one year after Prince Joachim's brother, Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary welcomed twins into their family.
