JC Penney's Father's Day Ad Featuring Gay Dads |
On the ad, "real-life" gay dads Todd Koch and Cooper Smith can be seen enjoying their time with their two kids, Claire and Mason.
The tagline of a copy of the ad reads, "What makes Dad so cool? He's the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver – all rolled into one. Or two."
In February, JC Penney received a protest from a group called One Million Moms for having TV personality Ellen DeGeneres as its spokesperson.
"Funny that JCPenney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of its customers are traditional families," the group wrote on its website.
The department store chain responded by saying DeGeneres was the "perfect" spokesperson for them.
"We thought Ellen would be the perfect person because we all kind of trust her. You know, she's a very honest, straightforward person with extraordinary values," the store said.
