'Bwakaw' To Be Screened At New York Film Festival 2012

The line-up for the main slate of movies for the New York Film Festival 2012 has been announced on Thursday.

Among the 32 films is a Filipino indie film, "Bwakaw," starring veteran actor Eddie Garcia.

"A moving and funny surprise from the Philippines starring the great Eddie Garcia—and a truly unforgettable dog—in the story of an elderly loner going where he’s never dared venture before," reads a blog post on the Festival's website.

"Bwakaw" will be screened alongside masterpieces from big named directors such as Ang Lee’s "Life of Pi," David Chase’s "Not Fade Away," Robert Zemeckis’s "Flight," and Michael Haneke's "Amour," which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes this year.

Written and directed by Palanca Literary Awards Hall of Famer Jun Lana, "Bwakaw" chronicles the story of elderly Rene (Eddie Garcia) who thinks it is now too late for love, even companionship, and that all there is to look forward to is death. Rene has a dog named Bwakaw, who hangs around his house and follows him wherever he goes.

The film has won awards in this year's Cinemalaya, including the Audience Choice and Netpac Awards.
