California Earthquakes August 26, 2012
A series of moderate earthquakes struck California on Sunday, August 26, 2012, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said .

The strongest registered at magnitude 5.4 and was recorded at 1:57 p.m. local time (20:57 UTC).  Its epicenter was located at 5 km (3 miles) North of Brawley, California.

The USGS recorded more than two dozens of earthquakes that jolted California on Sunday, mostly originating from Brawley. Their Richter Scale readings ranged from magnitude 3.0 to 5.4.

Below were the preliminary magnitude counts of some of the quakes:

Magnitude 4.0 12:16 p.m - 6 km (4 miles) N of Brawley, California
Magnitude 4.6 12:20 p.m. - 5 km (3 miles) N of Brawley, California
Magnitude 5.3 12:31 p.m. - 5 km (3 miles)  N of Brawley, California
Magnitude 4.9 12:33 p.m. - 3 km (2 miles) NW of Brawley, California
Magnitude 4.3 12:40 p.m. - 6 km (4 miles) WNW of Brawley, California

There were no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries from the earthquakes.
