Romantic drama-war film "Dear John" is set to premiere on Velvet’s Flickpick on Friday (August 17).
Built from the same ingredients as Nicholas Spark’s other works, “Dear John” is your typical romance filled with extraordinary love and sacrifice.
The film stars Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum, is directed by Lasse Hallström and is based on the novel by best-selling author Nicholas Sparks.
"Dear John" tells the story of John Tyree, a young soldier home on leave, and Savannah Curtis, the idealistic college student he falls in love with during her spring vacation. Over the next seven tumultuous years, the couple is separated by John’s increasingly dangerous deployments and is only in touch through a stream of love letters.
According to a New York Times reviewer, A. Scott, the movie "carefully distills selected elements of human experience and reduces them to a sweet and digestible syrup. It may not be strong medicine, but it delivers an effective, pleasing dose of pure sentiment and vicarious heartache."
"Dear John" will be aired at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 17 with encore telecast on Saturday (August 18), 10:00 a.m. Velvet (SkyCable Channel 53) is available on SkyCable Platinum, SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and other quality cable operators nationwide.
