I have always been enticed &enchanted by the Theatrical Dynasty- The Redgraves. With the tragic accidental death of Natasha Richardson last year, & of Corin Redgrave, so wonderful as the hapless groom Hamish in the hit movie comedy Four Weddings & a Funeral, who died last month. What a sad & difficult time for this famous & talented clan.
With Alan Bates in Georgy Girl (1966)
Broadway, TV, & film, she did it all. Lynn Redgrave made more than 100 films, & she earned 2 Oscar nominations: her starring role in the 1966 film Georgy Girl, which made her a mod, Carnaby Street sensation, & her unforgettable supporting turn in Bill Condon's Gods & Monsters in 1998. Like her siblings, Redgrave took on the great Shakespearian roles, but she was also known for her TV work here & in Britain.
The last performance that I remember seeing her, was playing Alfred Kinsey's Final Interview Subject in another Bill Condon film- the very underrated- Kinsey. She was only on screen for a few minutes, her portrayal of a woman who found the strength to be herself through the doctor's work was powerful & memorable, & I was deeply moved.
She will be missed.
"God always has another custard pie up his sleeve."
